Istanbul Hosts Opening of 8th Ethnosport Culture Festival
(MENAFN) The 8th Ethnosport Culture Festival has officially begun in Istanbul, bringing together traditional sports, cultural performances, and international participants for a four-day event running from May 21 to May 24, according to reports.
Organized by the World Ethnosport Confederation, the festival opened its doors at Istanbul Atatürk Airport with an inaugural program featuring student performances and a traditional Gulbank ceremony held in front of a specially constructed Han Tent on the festival grounds. The opening also included a performance by the Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Ensemble’s Mehter band.
During the ceremony, the president of the World Ethnosport Confederation, Bilal Erdogan, addressed attendees, emphasizing that the event is designed to showcase and celebrate the richness of traditional cultural heritage.
He highlighted that visitors would be able to experience a range of activities throughout the festival, including traditional wrestling competitions, equestrian sports, and various cultural demonstrations. Organizers also stressed the importance of creating opportunities for families and children to engage directly with cultural traditions through interactive workshops and events.
Bilal Erdogan stated that the festival aims to bring together participants from around the world, combining athletes, artists, and cultural figures in a shared environment focused on heritage and tradition. He also noted that younger visitors would have the chance to connect with cultural values in a hands-on and immersive way.
The opening ceremony concluded with an official ribbon-cutting, carried out alongside children, marking the formal start of the festival and its scheduled activities across Istanbul.
